If you were sitting across from an experienced curator
& professional portfolio reviewer, what would you ask her?

For an artist, turning ideas into reality can be a sensitive process. Our work comes from the heart, so sharing it in an exhibition (or with the entire internet) can churn up a lot of emotions - as well as creative and technical questions.

Mentoring helps.

Here’s how it works: we’ll have a 1-on-1 conversation about whatever you’re working on (or resisting working on).

I pull from 20+ years as a curator, photographer, gallerist, portfolio reviewer, and juror - and I work with both emerging and experienced artists.

If you have a vision of the kind of artist you could be, and you’d love deeper insights and a clear roadmap to help you make your dream a reality, mentoring is here for you.

Mentoring is a great fit if...

  • You’re ready to brainstorm that dream project you can’t stop thinking about

  • You’re looking for support and feedback on a long-term project

  • You’ve been blocked and you’re craving fresh insight, motivation, and inspiration

  • You’re not sure which of your images are strong - and which ones need help

  • You're preparing for an exhibit and need help with image selection, printing, framing, installation, or sequencing

  • You’re not ready for an exhibit yet…but you’re dreaming about it and you’d love help setting the stage

  • You work feels "all over the place" and you need help making sense of it all

  • You want to build or refine a photo website, but you’re not sure what to include or how to make it shine

  • You want to create a top-notch portfolio with a cohesive personal vision

  • You’re ready to grow as a photographer, but you’re not sure which next steps to take

  • You’d love to write more powerful artist statements, but they don’t come naturally

  • You want learn to connect with wider audiences and collectors

  • You’re attending a portfolio review and want to work with an experienced reviewer to get your ducks in a row

  • You’re entering competitions and need help strategizing and prepping

  • You have a publishing project in mind and need help editing, sequencing, and reviewing written materials

  • You’re stuck in a rut and you’d love to identify new sources of inspiration

Thank you so much for your insights and assistance putting together a show that makes sense. You really helped me focus on this body of work in a concrete way. I feel more on track.

Laura, I woke up this morning with a greater sense of clarity about my project and feel ready to move forward. I greatly appreciate your insights. Thanks again!

Hi, I’m Laura!

I’m a photographer and curator who helps people hone their vision and thrive in their creative ventures.

I have a long history of helping artists evolve and present their work. I teach e-courses, work 1-on-1 with photographers at all levels, and curate exhibitions for galleries and photo festivals around the world. I also jury photo competitions and serve as a reviewer at national and international portfolio reviews, where I help photographers fine-tune their vision and promote their work with confidence.

Each of my offerings goes deeper than mere mechanics - into the heart of making your creative process brilliantly, joyfully alive. If you’re stuck in a rut lately, mentoring will help you clear creative blocks so you can make your most skillful, authentic, wholehearted work.

Laura is wonderful, patient, kind, attentive, and an expert at seeing.
— Sara Patterson
My latest work is an unmarked path into the photographic wilderness. I desperately needed to start defining where I was going. Laura listened and posed thought-provoking questions. Our conversation covered everything from practical considerations of when and what to exhibit to deeper questions of how to express my personal narrative. I felt affirmed for many of my choices and challenged on others. She helped me find the courage to say no to quick opportunities, to find context for my previous reviews, and to refine my artistic statement. Most importantly, she opened up new lines of inquiry which have been very fruitful. My time with Laura was invaluable.
