Laura gives lectures and half or full-day seminars to photo clubs, arts organizations, and photo festivals. Her talks center on photography as a creative practice, rather than a technical and mechanical pursuit. After many years of directing the educational programming at a photography school, it became clear to her that the way photography is most often taught is not the way it is practiced by artists. 95% of photo education is technical and mechanical, and the creative process is only rarely addressed. In contrast, working artists focus their primary energies on issues of creative expression and meaning making. All of Laura's teaching and lecturing seeks to address this imbalance - and to help photographers investigate what it really means to be an artist. She loves speaking about how photographers can make the creative process more personal, unique, and meaningful. She also enjoys speaking about portfolio building and exhibiting work. Her talks have been called "transformative" and "life changing."
Laura is available to lecture throughout the U.S. and abroad. Please contact her with your proposal.
